I don't know, but if he stays for a decade or two, and doesn't hire GM Frank Lane, I wonder if the Indians don't wander in the wilderness as long.
Yes, Hank Greenberg was more his assistant atg first - I wonder if he goes elsewhere after al while, feeling he "learned the craft" but now wants more freedom. Lane likely wouldn't come unless he had total control.

OTOH,Veeck could keep Lane out another way; stay for 7-8 years and then sell, maybe he sees a chance witht he Athletics or something, but find an owner who will keep Greenberg. With probably better players, Greenberg might be kept around with a 5-year deal or so because he has been part of that winning formula, with Veeck only leaving becasue it was him or Greenberg, and he might have gotten a bit tired of staying in one place. It's hard to say.

I think Boudreau, Vernon, and a couple others to the Senators in 1950 makes sense (well, the '49 offseason) - he can count on Easter, bring MInoso up early if he has to, and the Senators can give Boudreau a longer-term deal to manage after his playing days; Veeck can sell it as "You might have been a manager before, but I helped get you to the next level, so more clubs want you."

Which is why I wonder about Greenberg and Veeck being at odds after a few more eyars.

He better keep Lane out. I think that guy used to trade people for fun. Not what you need.

I just came up with a big idea, though: What if Veeck keeps the team until around 1964, and sells it to someone who was just involved with an ill-fated basketball league? His name: George Steinbrenner.

That would be crazy. And yes, Frank Lane may have had ADHD because he didn't seem to be able to stop from trading. It's like those old jokes where someone is just doing something at random and then shouts "squirrel." Except for him it would be "second baseman" and then he would just have to go and get one at random.

He had actually built a decent team in the early 1950s with the White Sox but just kept Trading people. Under different circumstances he might have won a pennantin the period 1953-57, even with his incredible number of trades.

I was on Reddit, and I found out that the Pats were allegedly going to trade up to the #2 spot with the Giants if Baker Mayfield was available. If the Pats get Baker, is Belichick still there today?

If the Pats gets Baker...OHH, what that mean brady, this is after eagles SB...and Brady did want to leave by 2018...so the rest goes as OTL? and Brady left a year early? or is traded?

New York Jets winning the AFC in 1998-99 then going to the Superbowl and winning their second SuperBowl, later that year The New York Knicks winning their third NBA title in their lockout season maybe building a dynasty in the 2000s.

I don't think that he was a FA until 2020, so they may have kept him for two more years as in OTL.

1984 NFL Draft - The Chicago Bears pick Steve Young in the 9th round despite his USFL contract.
- The pick generated some controversy, and Young stated he would honor both the USFL contract, but should the USFL fold, he would play for the Bears.

- In 1985, Young is a backup to Jim McMahon and Steve Fuller. During the Bears' Super Bowl XX win, he was beloved by Bears fans for calling a time-out that led to the drive that had Walter Payton scoring the last touchdown of the Bears' 53-10 victory.

- In 1986, Young takes over for McMahon after the infamous Charles Martin slam - he leads the Bears to win Super Bowl XXI over the Denver Broncos by a 47-20 score. Young would be the Super Bowl MVP.

If Young takes over for an injured McMahon, and wins a Super Bowl, then McMahon is going to be traded in the off-season because the McCaskey's weren't a big fan of him.

Maybe McMahon is traded to the Colts for Gary Hogeboom and a fourth-rounder.

Then, in the 1987 draft, I don't see the Bears drafting Harbaugh since they have Young. The Giants (who lose to the Bears in the NFC Title Game in this world) pick 26th, and they take Ricky Nattiel. Then, after the Broncos take CB Nate Odomes (Louis Wright just retired), the Bears take S Tim McDonald with the 28th pick (Gary Fencik was on the verge of retirement).

What if The Habs acquired Cam Neely for Mike McPhee in 1985?

The Habs won the cup in 1986, and maybe they knock off the Flyers in the 1987 WCF before losing to the Oilers.

-What if Cam Neely was traded to Philadelphia in 1985? Does the Flyers win the cup in 1987? Does the Lindros-Era Flyers actually gets some much needed depth? In fact, if the lindros deal never happens and the flyers keep Duchesne, Ricci, Simon, Yushkevich, Hextall and Peter Forsberg along with still acquiring Brind'amour, Leclair, Desjardins and Svoboda along with Neely already in place, does the 90s Flyers win the cup around 95-97?

Who was going to be traded for him? If they don't give up much, Neely could help them against the Oilers (he had 36 goals and 36 assists that year for the Bruins).

Right now, I am watching Bronx Zoo 90 about the disasterous 90 Yankee season, and how a dynasty was born from the ashes of that season.

However, there were several things that had to happen. For example, if Steinbrenner isn't suspended, then Gene Michael and Buck Showalter don't come in and start the turnaround.

Then, if there wasn't a 1994 strike, and the Yanks end up in the WS, maybe Showalter isn't fired in 1995, and Torre isn't hired (that was a key component. He dealt with Steinbrenner better).

And, even after getting to the first WS in that era, if Leyritz doesn't hit the three-run homer in Game 4 of the 1996 WS, and they lose that game (and the WS), maybe Torre is fired the next year (if they still lose to Cleveland in the division series), and the dynasty still doesn't happen.

Joe.
Torre was on the hot seat at the start of 1998 if I recall. I think it likely that Buck Showalter, if he goes to the World Series in 1994, simply lasts a few more years and is fired with Torre bBeginning 1998 in the same way Casey Stengel began 1949. Then he just lasts until he retired like he did.

The more important component is them not trading away Jeter, Rivera, etc.
