WI: Jesus Christ married Mary Magdalene

The problem with the House of Christ is that it’s prestigious begins will make it a diplomatic minefield for marriages as we’ve seen how IOTL royalty and nobility fought for the honour of the popes, this house will be dangerously sought after.

The members themselves will also be under strict scrutiny. Any “unchristian” action will be ripped apart.

Uhh, they just become nobody important and fade into the background over the next 300 years. Maybe with some refading into the jewish community and "was great grand dad really a cult leader?" Coming up.

Because, in cultural terms Jesus (to non Christians) culturally, was a weird cult leader before he was Christ for 200-300 years (and no insult is intended).

For all we know this is what happened and the guys writing the Gospels decided "yeah, we might want to omit that"
Since someone mentioned this already, I would like to point out that other unfortunate pair, Ali and Fatimah. One of their sons had to keep a low profile all his life to avoid Umayyad suspicion erupting into outright hostility, and the other decided his time is nigh and got on the receiving end of hostility.

Suffice to say Christian early history would get a lot more messy if such a thing as "the House of Christ" ever came into being.

What would happen? His children either return to proper Judaism or are killed with the church of James either in 70 CE or when the Ebionites are destroyed later.
We have a tradition according to Rabbenu Tam that Peter returned to Judams.

How do we kenow that he didn't? We don't know about histoci Jesus almost anything and writers of Gospels might have just on some odd reason decided not tell that.

But if Jesus indeed wouldhad married her and writers of Gospels tell that this would affect greatly to Christianity. Thsi too depends if that Jeus has children.

Sounds like a good idea for a timeline- or a book, fiction or non-fiction, whichever comes out first.

In fact, I seem to recall hearing about some gnostic writings (... Gospel of Mary and Gospel of Philip in particular?) all but out-right spelling out that they were married, but that these thoughts was actively and aggressively suppressed by (semi-deliberately) mis-identifying her as a prostitute

I have heard similar theories but it is hard to tell if it is true or not. We just haven't enough of sources about Jesus outside of the Bible. We don't know about actual Jesus anything beside that he lived in Judea on early 1st century and possiblility was some kind of preacher who possibility was executed by Romans.

higly unlikely based on the early creed and paul letters some like James if the brother of the lord was mentioned at least the son of the lord should be as well or the wife of the lord

They might have chosen to suppress these facts to avoid anyone claiming to be the "Son of Son of God" and challenging the Apostles' authority.

again not likely because the son of jesus has more potential to be a puppet if he did have it In fact its likely that James would have kept him been an important figure in Jerusalem its not impossible to suggest jesus was married and had kids but there been , also the apostles if going by the biblical narrative of acts and also paul they are wondering hermits not cult leaders that like most cult leaders do grab their followers seclude them from the outside word to a tight community and keep control of them

they made followers and left and many followers to be corrupted which is what happened if we go by Paul letters which many chirstians did un chirstian things copying pagans or having a different doctrine and proto Gnosticism evolves so in this context unless both jesus wife and potential sons died its quite unlikely that a homeless traveling group really suppressed information when they stayed in the city nor would any one in jesus family like James use the children especially after the apostles left the city.

They might had decided on some reason not mention Jesus' wife. And we should note that Gospels were written several years/decades after Jesus' death and IIRC only two or three who wrote anything to the Bible or Apocryphic books knew Jesus personally if they even were ever exist.

That is ours problem with the Bible. Many things about Jesus were written years after his death and some even didn't know him personally. So that is not historically very reliable. We can just mostly give good guesses.

Umm... would that make their children half-God?
It’s not too alien when you think the Pharaohs of Egypt and Pagan Scandinavians thought the same.

That’s also what I meant by royals and nobilities wanting to marry into the family.
How many kings would boast that through their daughters they were the grandfather of Demi-Gods (similar to OTL I doubt female members of the Christ family will be able to claim divine “Demi-Goddess” status.

But as @Carter I'm Yog has pointed out, teachers of theology will have a hard time answers questions that are even harder than the “theological questions” of today, such as:
- why can’t descendants of Christ no perform miracles?
- Why does the holy trinity not include grandson(s),
- Why do bad things happen to the Christ family?
- Who is more pious, the Pope or the Head of House Christ?
- Does a descendant of Christ automatically get created a cardinal/Pope?
- Why do the members of house of Christ sin?
- Would we see more denominations of Christianity with different members of House Christ pushing alternative agendas.

Well, considering the belief that everyone who has european descent today is descended from Charlemagne who lived closer to us than JC, it's easy to imagine that a lot of people would be descended from him, making it less special.
